The Good Samaritan, by Paula Moderson-Becker, 1907. |
Most Merciful One, we lift our hearts to You,
praising You for your compassion and love.
You lead us not into temptation, Lord,
for we certainly know the way on our own.
Instead, You, O God, call us to righteous humility,
to embody mercy and compassion with each breath.
Give us the grace to be merciful
even to those who hurt us,
and to forgive as we hope to be forgiven.
Help us to care for the fallen, the suffering, and the broken,
seeing our own faces
and yours, Lord Christ,
in theirs.
Set all who call upon you upon the path of peace, O God,
and pour out your healing Spirit on those we now name.
Amen.
