Prayer 1984: inspired by Matthew 21:23-32
Almighty God,
Creator of the universe
and of this small sparrow making her nest,
all the round earth sings out your praise.
Lord, you bind all things together in your love:
pour out your blessing over us
as we seek to do your will, not ours.
Overcome our unbelief, in your mercy, O Holy One,
and forgive us our failure and our faintness of heart.
May we hear your call to us and obey, Blessed Savior,
going into the fields
to embrace the forsaken,
to stand alongside the oppressed,
to feed the hungry,
to comfort the mourning,
to shelter the lost.
May we rejoice in the work you have given us, Lord Christ,
and embody your gospel of abundance,
for you have made us so for joy and for truth.
God of Mercy, we lay our cares at your feet:
send your Spirit of Hope into hearts of the anxious,
and pour out your comfort over those we now name.
Amen.
