Prayer 3654: A Prayer for Valentine's Day based on Michael 6:8

Love divine,
we praise You for the beauty of this new day:
alleluias rise with the song of the morning birds.

You have called us into covenant with You;
like a compassionate shepherd, You call us back
when we stray from your paths.
Let us seek only to do what is good and loving
in service to You,
for your mercy and love pours down like rain.

Let us do justice to those we we encounter:
open our eyes to those who are oppressed,
and our hearts and resources to those whom we see suffering.
For we are all one, bound together by your love that births us.

Let us love mercy, and extend it to friend and foe.
Let us act in kindness and empathy
as we claim to be your children,
that the world might know
that You are the God of compassion and healing,
as Your Son exemplified.
For we are all one. bound together by you love that sustains us.

Let us walk humbly with You and with each other,
remembering and giving thanks for your grace
poured out upon us so that we might share it with all.
For we are all one, bound together by your love
that forgives and guides us.

Incline your ear to our prayers for those we name,
O Most Merciful God,
as we bear them up in tenderness as we pray.

Prayer 1967: Living the Commandment of Love

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,
we sing a song of thanksgiving before You,
recalling the comforting weight of your hand
shielding and guarding us through the night:
O God, we lift our hearts to You.

God of Compassion, grant us wisdom,
that we may study your Word,
and never stray from the heart of your law:
to love You in word and deed,
and to love our neighbors as our own selves.
Almighty One, you command us to relieve suffering,
to stand alongside the oppressed,
to welcome the homeless,
remembering that your law is grounded in love,
for we are ourselves upheld
only through your grace and mercy.

Blessed Savior,
strengthen us in integrity and compassion,
that we may we do justice,
love mercy,
and walk humbly and honorably with You in every moment.
May we tear down the edifices of cruelty and injustice,
remembering we are each other's keeper
as Christ's hands and heart in the world.

Accept now, we pray,
our intercessions and our cares which we place before You,
O Merciful God,
Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer,
that your blessing may cover these beloveds
in a cloud of comfort and peace.

Prayer 1402

Reading about Dietrich Bonhoeffer this semester, andgiving thanks to God for his witness.

We praise you and bless You,
Lord God of Power and Mercy,
and give You thanks for this moment of worship.
You are creating the heavens and the earth:
let the song of the earth overflow
to fill our hearts with peace. 

Open our eyes
to perceive your grace and mercy
moving within our lives,
for we know that our times are in your hand.
Animate us by your Holy Spirit
to be warriors for justice
and humble servants for the cause of real peace and compassion.

Drive far from us
our arrogance and self-service,
which lead us away from You
to worship at false altars of pride and contempt.

Let us act in justice,
and love mercy,
and walk humbly with You, O Holy One,
all the days of our lives.

Lord Jesus, we place our hearts and souls
within your healing hands:
lead us to new life in kinship
with You and each other.

Resting within your embrace, O Christ,
accept our whispered prayers and petitions
that we bear in our hearts, as we pray.

Based on Micah 6:8 

Lord God, Who Creates, Saves, and Empowers All, hear our prayers and praises as we bow the knee of our hearts before You. Guide our footsteps in the way of peace, that we may know and walk in the way of Christ. 

Let us transform our hardness of heart into doing justice, which is compassion and respect caught fire. 
Let us love mercy, remembering our own manifold sins and faults, and thy grace which we receive through abounding love. 
Let us walk humbly before You and each other and upon this fragile Earth You made, O God, for love of Christ. 

Let us proclaim in our actions as well as our words the wonders that God has done in our lives, mercies without end. 
Let us renounce enmity, hatred, envy, resentment, and turn instead to building up the kingdom of heaven as your servants. 

Holy One, you know our hearts even before we turn to You: even in our unworthiness be with us now, Lord Christ, and with those whom we love.
