Prayer 2793: The Turning of the Year (in Memory of Ruth Bader Ginsberg)

We praise You, O Wisdom of the Ages,
and ask your guidance
as we seek to walk in holiness and engagement
with the world around us.

Maker of Peace,
help us to rededicate ourselves
to being a people of integrity and hope,
seeking the flourishing of all,
purifying ourselves of envy and resentment.
Teach us to treasure
the gifts great and small with which you bless us,
to see your love for us woven into the fabric of creation
from the smallest turning leaf to the majesty of the mountains,
from a child's laugh to a grandparent's embrace,
from music in the wind to conversations with a friend.

Fashioner of Light,
help us to be worthy
of the true heroes in our midst
who show us what true generosity is,
guided by love in action for the sake of others.

Bless us and keep us
as we seek to join in the work of healing and reclamation,
O Life-Giver of All.
Grant the sweets of your loving-kindness and peace
to all for whom we pray.

Amen.

Prayer 2529: The Turning- A Prayer for New Year's Day

Beloved Redeemer,
we greet your new year with open hearts:
fill them with your grace
that we may reflect your beauty
before the world.

May we turn our hearts
to shake out all the pieces of broken dreams
and rusted, dull aches and resentments
to which we cling,
that we may replace them
with the hope of new life and light
to which you call us in the coming year.

May we turn our feet
from all the paths that have not served us well,
and dedicate ourselves anew
to living with integrity and generosity,
at one with your wisdom, O Loving Creator.

May we turn our faces
toward the light of your promise, O Savior,
trusting in your goodness and mercy,
and allow our souls to be warmed
by your gospel sun dawning within them.

May we turn our tongues
to singing out your grace and truth
picking up the thread of melody
that flows from your call to follow You, O God,
and amplifying your beautiful hymn of life renewed
that echoes in creation.

May we turn our shoulders
to the wheels of justice and peace,
and turn our hands to join with each other,
resolute in standing as a bridge of mercy
in the breaches and chasms
that rend us one from another.

Spirit of Abundant Grace,
sustain us in our turning to You;
hover over us and lead us,
bless us and keep us,
and grant your blessing to those for whom we pray.

Amen.

Prayer 2165: For New Year's Day

Holy One,
Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer,
we give you thanks for your great faithfulness,
for your tender compassion and abundant grace
that bears us up in contentment and gratitude.

Your mercies are new every morning:
your protecting, guiding hand leads us into hope,
that we may look back and remember your goodness
and look forward in hope for the gift of this new year.

You are making the heavens and the earth:
remake in us our innocence and joy
that we may see the delights you spread before us
and give thanks for your ongoing creation within us.

May we open our hearts to your abundance
and embody your healing hands in the world,
that reconciliation and peace may flourish in your Name.

God of Grace,
extend the awning of your mercy
over all who cry out to You,
and place the seal of your blessing
upon those for whom we pray.

Amen.

thank You, O God.
You have named us as your beloved children
and called us to be a holy, loving people:
thank You, O God.

Give us grace to do your will in all we undertake,
O Loving One,
that your Name may be glorified
before the eyes of the world.

in justice, mercy, wisdom, empathy, and peace
throughout the coming year.

Prayer, day 1700- For Rosh Hoshana

All-Merciful, Beneficent One,
we thank you for this new day
and new year You have given us.
May we dedicate ourselves
to strengthening the bonds of love and friendship
that hold us in orbit around each other.
May we be determined
to heal where there is division,
to comfort where there is sorrow,
and to forgive where there is injury.
May we be mirrors
to reflect the light and beauty of your Truth
into the world.
May we seek righteousness without self-righteousness,
and walk humbly with our God and our neighbors.
May our prayers and praises rise before You,
as we lift up those whose trust is in You, Loving One.

Amen.

Prayer 1441: The Holy Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ

The Holy Family. Source unknown.
Holy God,
Father of All Mercies,
Mother of All Kindness,
we give You thanks for the Holy Name of Jesus.

Teach us to live and love
under the banner of your Beloved Son,
working to restore creation
from the hurt we have inflicted on it.

Lead us into unity
as we face forward into the New Year,
and turn to You, Lord Christ,
as our exemplar and guide.
Gather us
within the shelter of your arms
as we bear the name of Christ,
that we be holy and compassionate people.

Strengthen us in prayer and praise,
and receive our intercessions
which we lay before You
in hope and love.

Amen.
