Prayer 1982: Sixth Sunday After Pentecost

(Mark 5:21-43)
Almighty God, we rejoice to gather before You
and come into your courts to give you thanks and praise,
united around your altar as one body.

Blessed Savior,
we live in a world of cynicism and contempt,
a world that worships the god of the belly
on the altar of self
over the love of God and each other
on the altar of love and sacrifice:
heal us, we pray,
and strengthen us to embody your gospel of shalom.

Heal us, Lord Jesus, of our woundedness,
our fears and hatreds,
our divisions and exploitation of others:
may we reach out to you in faith
just as you healed the woman
when she reached out to touch of hem of your robe.

Spirit of the Living God,
bless and keep us under the shade of your mercy,
and pour out your protection over those for whom we pray.

Amen.
