Prayer 1721- inspired by Matthew 9:18-26

O God, bend near,
and hear the whispered prayers of your awakening children.

Grant us, Lord Christ, the faith to believe
that we can be healed of the things that afflict us.
Give us the strength
to renounce our denigration or exploitation of others,
our comfort with injustice and lynch law.
May we never shrug at the hunger or poverty of others,
telling ourselves they choose or deserve their hardship.

May we always remember, O Master, your saving touch,
and be Christ's hands in the world for others.
May we live into the light of love
in which You call us to walk, O God,
in thankfulness,
led by grace toward enlightenment.
May we remember that the power to heal
is more holy than the power to destroy,
as Jesus's life on Earth taught us.
Rise again in our hearts, O Savior,
and lead us in choosing the path of peace, we pray.
Lord, we lay our prayers at the seat of your mercy;
we ask your blessing upon those we now name.

Amen.
