Prayer 1986 (Inspired by Matthew 22:1-14 and Psalm 131)
Blessed be our God,
who stills our souls and quiets our spirits,
like children upon our mothers' breast.
Almighty Creator, who formed us and gives us life,
receive our prayers and praises
from our rising to our resting.
Lord Jesus, you have invited us into your feast;
may we clothe ourselves with garments befitting your gospel:
generosity,
honor,
integrity,
humility,
compassion,
loving-kindness,
gentleness,
patience,
and mercy.
Let us never take your name in vain
by claiming you as Lord while practicing division,
for You, O God, call us to newness of life,
embracing the way of justice, peace, and abundant love.
By the power of the Holy Spirit,
strengthen us in goodness and mercy, O Holy One,
and pour out your peace, like a balm in Gilead,
over those for whom we pray.
Amen.
