Second Sunday of Advent

This Sunday is the second Sunday of Advent. On the Advent Wreath, we will once again light the first candle, which is known as the Prophecy Candle, or Candle of Expectation or Hope. This candle is located as the second candle back from the Rose Candle 

Moving in a counter-clockwise direction, we will then light the candle next to the Rose Candle. This second purple candle is known as “the Bethlehem Candle,” "the Candle of Peace," or the “Candle of Preparation.” The emphasis is on the prophets who the gospels say pointed the way to Jesus, such as John the Baptist.
